The Beast

First of all, I appreciate that the roasting date is within a month of when I had received it as the freshness of the beans is dependent on that. I could smell the fresh aroma of the dark roasted beans upon opening the bag. It was a little bit oily as dark roasts tend to be, but I ensured that my espresso machine had a clean hopper before using these beans. I made a few lattes with this bag already and I can taste some notes of chocolate coming through. I like how it's lower in acidity than other beans, making it smoother and easier on my stomach.

I've never tried Spetza coffee before but I can say, without hesitation, I would buy this again. The beans arrived very fresh with a roasted date boldly printed on the front of the bag. The 'best before' date is one year later, which was printed clearly on the bottom of the bag. I ground it fresh and brewed it in a french press. It is a very dark coffee which I love, and I do not detect any acidity. It definitely carries a chocolate note, subtle but noticeable.

The price seems pretty reasonable to me for what seems to be a very high quality coffee.

Finding a new coffee that I love is like waking up on Christmas morning. Spetza Roasting Co.'s The Beast is aromatic, smooth and delicious down to the very last drop. I used these beans in a coarse grind with my french press for pristine, barista quality results. Because this is a bold, dark roast, I didn't need as many beans to make a full-strength brew. This coffee is not bitter, and the acidity is minimal. Even though a higher caffeine content is noted, I did not get the jitters or coffee sweats from this.

This is a coffee I will keep on regular rotation and continue to purchase in the future. The bag I received was roasted on July 1st, 2025 - it doesn't get much fresher than that! For a 12 oz. bag of whole bean coffee, this is an excellent value.

The vendor calls these coffee beans "The Beast," and they weren’t exaggerating. At the time of this review, $16 gets you 12 oz of beans that are absolutely delicious. I used them in my automatic espresso machine, and the results were outstanding. The finished shot had a deep, rich flavor with a smooth finish, and as advertised, a very low acidity, making it easy to enjoy without any sharp tang.

I was also impressed with the freshness of the beans. The packaging is well-designed to help maintain that freshness until you’re ready to brew, which is an important factor in preserving quality.

Overall, these beans delivered on both taste and freshness, and they’re a great choice for anyone who appreciates a bold, rich cup of espresso.

I was so impressed by this Spetza Roasting Co. The Beast 12oz Whole Bean Coffee, Dark Roast. It was everything a dark roast should be. This coffee was so fresh and delicious. It was bold, yet smooth, and I did not detect any acidity in the flavor. There was no bitterness, and the only aftertaste I could detect was a slight lingering of a dark chocolate that was definitely not unpleasant.

The aroma of this coffee is mesmerizing. To grind these gorgeous beans is to create art. I could not stop sniffing the bag. This is crafted from expert roasters in Texas and sourced from high altitude farms in South America. If you know anything about growing coffee beans then you know high altitude is everything. This coffee gave me something to look forward to every morning. It made me feel alert and focused. I will be drinking this coffee forever.
